History:
It wasn't always called Bradenton Beach. The original name was Cortez Beach because it was close Cortez fishing village, the nearby fishing village just over the Cortez Bridge. It was renamed during the 1920's land boom so buyers would see the beach and the city of Bradenton were next to each other rather than having Cortez fishing village separate it. Historic Bridge Street Pier is of the first bridge to the island, built in 1922. The wooden bridge was replaced in 1957 because of the bridge ws rickety and it swayed in the wind.
Today, the pier, extending into Sarasota bay, offers terrific fishing and sightseeing opportunities, as well as the famous Anna Maria Oyster Bar as well as shops.
